Interior Pail Container Linings

General Descriptions

The following provides a general overview of the enamel systems used on the interior of the pail containers. (It has been the norm in the pail industry to identify the liner by its color. This convention is continued below.)

Red-Brown

The red-brown is a pigmented, phenolic material. This liner is suitable for a wide range of products containing strong acids, strong solvents and insecticides.

Gold

The gold enamel is a non-pigmented, phenolic material. It is typically, applied at a lower film weight compared to the red-brown enamel. It can be used with the same products as the red-brown; however, due to the film weight the red-brown provides longer shelf life.

Buff

The buff is a pigmented, epoxy-phenolic material. It is used when film flexibility is required. This liner used for products containing mild acids or are highly alkaline.

Rust Inhibitor (RI)

he RI coating is a non-pigmented (clear) material that is applied at a low weight. Its purpose is to provide short term corrosion protection from the time the pail is manufactured until it is filled. The RI material is used with products that do not react with the pail’s substrate and do not require a lining.
