Which Plastic for Your Product?
This section provides general guidelines on whether a plastic container could
be used to package a product. These guidelines were compiled by The Society of
the Plastics Industry (SPI Canada) with the direct assistance of raw material
manufacturers.
| These guidelines deal only with compatibility, not with costs or any
physical or mechanical properties of the plastic materials listed.
Compatibility must satisfy the following: |
- Under normal period and conditions of shelf life (21-24º C);
- No product change;
- No product loss;
- No change in container shape.
|
In addition, these guidelines do not deal with the effect of products and
plastics on each other; nor are they designed to replace comprehensive
container/end-product testing to determine suitability for specific
applications. All packagers are urged to have each of their products fully
tested.
The data contained in these guidelines does not imply a recommendation of
suitability for any specific end-use application, nor should it be interpreted
to mean that a product will meet regulatory requirements.
It is always the buyer's responsibility to make the final determination as to
whether any given container or closure is suitable or safe for use with the
intended product or products. The buyer is cautioned to satisfy himself that all
products purchased from C.L. Smith Company are compatible wiht the product being
packaged.
We will provide samples for testing, but will not be liable for any claims,
lawsuits, damages or losses since we have no control over the filling or
distribution of the final product.
